MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Redhorse Connections, Inc. is to provide programs, families and persons living on Native American Reservations assistance for personal needs, care, maintenance, support, as well as the cost of materials, labor and construction of tribal projects. Furthermore, Redhorse Connections, Inc. provides material assistance in the form of clothing and household items to families and individuals in need. The organization gives assistance/scholarships for higher education or trade school whenever possible
WHAT ARE THE CONNECTIONS?
The little girl that Red Horse gave his life for was a stranger to him, a Caucasian who knew nothing of Native American life. She did not know that Red Horse grew up on the Crow Creek Reservation in central South Dakota, where he saw tribal members sacrifice everyday so their children might reach adulthood. Sadly, most fail to see their young prosper as, generation after generation, tribal families continue to live in abject poverty.
WHY ARE WE GIVING?
While times are economically difficult for people in the main culture, the same hardships are doubly troublesome for reservation families. There are very few jobs on reservations, so unemployment runs over 90%. Even among Tribes with casinos, adults find only a small number of opportunities to make any income at all. The jobs that do exist are often part time, thus only a small number of working adults make enough money to support a family. When a crisis hits, such as illness, accident, or job loss, others around them try to help. Unfortunately, most families in crisis have found when those resources are gone, there is nowhere else to turn. However, many are learning of the connection between their Tribe and extended family off the reservation in Texas and elsewhere. Truly, the support of people through Redhorse Connections, Inc. is like assistance received through a large family, with members who lend a helping hand ¾ simply because they want to share what’s available with those in greatest need.
